Celebrating a Century-Old Craft in Bac Lieu
The Vietnam Salt-Making Festival 2024 marks a significant milestone as the country’s first large-scale celebration dedicated to salt-making. With the theme “A Century of Salt-Making – A Lifetime of Labor”, the event not only showcases the cultural essence of Vietnam’s coastal heritage but also promotes the branding of Vietnamese salt products both domestically and internationally.

Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with Bac Lieu People’s Committee, the festival is expected to attract:
- 50 central government representatives
- 250 delegates from other provinces, cities, and international organizations
- Over 500 local delegates
What to Expect at the Salt Festival

This vibrant cultural event will feature a wide range of exhibitions, seminars, and entertainment, including:
- Opening and Closing Ceremonies
- A trade fair and product exhibition showcasing salt-related items from provinces, enterprises, and cooperatives
- A space dedicated to traditional tools, innovations, and modern techniques in salt production and processing
- A conference on agricultural investment promotion
- A seminar on applying technology in salt-making and climate change adaptation
- A mid-term review of Decree No. 40/2017/ND-CP on salt production and trade

- Guided tours of salt fields in Bac Lieu, offering hands-on experiences with local salt farmers
- A night of traditional southern music in the “Back to Bac Lieu for Đờn ca tài tử” program

Strategic Plans to Develop the Salt Industry
Vietnam has recognized salt production as a strategic traditional industry. The Prime Minister approved a National Salt Industry Development Plan (2021–2030), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued Decision No. 766/QĐ-BNN-KTHT to implement it.

Additionally, an ongoing pilot project is focused on improving quality and value chains for the salt industry from 2021 to 2025. This pilot is being implemented across 8 provinces, including:
