ITINERARY
Perfume Pagoda: A Sacred Journey from Hanoi
Perfume Pagoda holds immense religious significance for the local community and is considered one of Vietnam’s holiest sites. This vast complex of Buddhist temples and shrines serves as a revered pilgrimage destination, particularly during the annual Perfume Pagoda Festival, which takes place from the first to the third lunar month.
Our journey begins in Hanoi, where we travel through the scenic countryside to the pier at Duc. Here, we board a traditional riverboat and glide upstream along the serene Yen Stream, also known as the Yen River. This picturesque waterway is flanked by lush green farmlands, dense forests, and towering limestone karsts that rise dramatically from the water, creating a peaceful and visually stunning backdrop.
Upon reaching the Perfume Pagoda complex, we take a cable car ride to the heart of this sacred site. The journey offers breathtaking aerial views of the surrounding landscape. Nestled within a cave at the summit of Huong Tich Mountain, the main pagoda is surrounded by dense forests and majestic limestone peaks, creating a dramatic and serene setting.
Huong Tich Pagoda, the focal point of the Perfume Pagoda complex, is dedicated to Ba Chua Ba. According to legend, Ba Chua Ba was a compassionate and enlightened princess who renounced all material possessions to pursue a spiritual life. She chose the cave within Huong Tich Mountain as her sanctuary for meditation and enlightenment, sanctifying it as a sacred site for worship and pilgrimage.
The cave, discovered during the reign of Emperor Le Thanh Tong, is steeped in legend. Its entrance resembles the open mouth of a dragon, while its interior features stalactites and stalagmites shaped like Buddhist symbols. These natural formations are regarded as divine signs of the cave’s sanctity, further enhancing its spiritual significance.
After exploring the cave and admiring its sacred beauty, we descend on foot, taking in the breathtaking scenery on our way back to the waiting boat. From there, we return to our vehicle and begin our journey back to Hanoi, arriving around 5 p.m. (Lunch is included.)
This unforgettable day tour combines spirituality, natural beauty, and cultural discovery, leaving visitors with lasting memories of one of Vietnam’s most cherished sites.
